Randi, our stories are not identical, but your book is the closest I've found to describing the experience I've had the last 20 years... the high hopes of growing a family, the husband getting sick and disappearing, the kids struggling with psychosis and autism, the incessant lack of services -- same here on the west coast as the east. Thank you for writing.

Randi, I just finished reading your book and it was wonderful. I see Chase all the time around campus but never really fully understood about him and he is a great person. I admire you for what you did on not giving up on finding help for Chase when others let you down and then you never left your daughter out of your life while accomplishing the help for Chase. I always speak to him in passing. He is a wonderful son. I too think you are a hero in a mother way. Keep up the good work. Lots of blessings to you, Haley and Chase.

Thanks for sharing this story and bringing the reality of mental health issues out into daylight a little further. As mom to 11 kids (yep - most adopted) we have lots of things to deal with from FASD to Autism and a whole potential range of other mental health challenges in our future. I am going to review your book on our blog - thanks again for going ahead of us and gently educating people through this book on some of the weeknesses within our health care system.

I just finished your book. I was not able to put it down. I have been having some problems with a grandson who has mental health problems. Reading your book helped me understand that some people are dealing with situations much worse than mine and that help is our there. One just has to be persistant. I hope and pray for good things in the future for you and Haley and Chase, and for Zip, too.
